ACF’s Community Spotlight: Stillwater Senior Center….
Each May, the Absarokee Community Foundation gives back to the Absarokee area in a big way. This past year, 15 local non-profit groups submitted applications for projects highlighting their goals of helping to better the Absarokee community. The ACF board, which gives back to the community annually through their local granting process, distributed nearly $29,000 to these worthy causes.
This week, as part of a series of articles, the ACF is highlighting one grant recipient—the Stillwater Senior Center. According to their mission, the Stillwater Senior Center provides nutritional meals for area seniors, assisting anyone over the age of 60 and those under 60 if disabled who don’t have the financial means by providing free or reduced-cost meals.
One vital program, Meals on Wheels, delivers meals to community members that cannot physically get to the center. This program is important, as it not provides sustenance to those in need but oftentimes it is the only social event of an elderly recipient’s day and they look forward to the friendly volunteers that deliver those meals.
Although the Center tries to maintain an attractive, well-run community hall where friends can eat lunch, socialize, and enjoy numerous activities, the maintenance and upkeep is oftentimes overwhelming for tight budgets. This is where the Absarokee Community Foundation has stepped in; the board voted to financially assist with various major repairs so that the Stillwater Senior Center is able to continue operating and helping the Absarokee area’s senior population.
The ACF accepts grant applications each year with a deadline of April 30. Applications can be found at www.absarokeecommunityfoundation.org.
